Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do you offer any other services?
We also provide hearing screenings for adults.
We screen the following three areas: Disorders of the Ear/Hearing System; Hearing Status/Loss; Perceived Hearing Disability. Following the screening, clients are provided with a succinct report which provides results, comments and recommendations.

I live in California; can I use your services?
The state in which the client is located determines the “site of service”. In order for an individual to receive services, the clinician (speech-language pathologist and/or aural rehabilitationist) must be licensed in the state in which the client is located. Ms. Allen is licensed in Maryland, Texas, Virginia and the District of Columbia; individuals located in these jurisdictions are currently eligible for services.
-
Can I mail my forms in instead of emailing them?
It is preferred that completed forms are emailed. Emailing your completed forms allows us to receive the forms in a timely manner. It also decreases mailing delivery delays and provides for a safer exchange of information.
-
What are the office hours?
Office hours are variable. This variability is possible as virtual services can be scheduled to accommodate the schedule of both the clinician and the client.
-
Are sessions in person or virtual?
Currently, due to COVID-19 limitations, all sessions will be virtual via telepractice (tele-therapy) which will require clients to have access to basic computer technology to participate in sessions. In the future, once safe, it is our plan to provide in-person services.
-
How long are the sessions?
The length of a session is variable:
-
Most sessions are provided in 45-50-minute session segments.
-
Evaluation sessions can run a total of 1-3 hours in length.
-
Individual therapy sessions can run a total of 45-50 minutes.
-
Group therapy sessions can run a total of 45-50 minutes, or longer dependent on the number of clients participating in the group, and what type of group it is.
Therefore, as noted, session length is variable. Please contact/email for additional information.
-
How many sessions would I need?
It is difficult to provide the specific number of sessions a client might need to reach their potential or to meet their individual goals. That is dependent on a myriad of factors including and not limited to degree/type of hearing loss, number of communication area(s) addressed in therapy, client’s specific goals/targets, etc.

What is tele-therapy?
Telepractice (tele-therapy) uses computers to connect individuals to participate in therapy from a distance. Using a standard web camera and online video connections, connect with you in your home or other environments to provide aural rehabilitation therapy. Teletherapy offers “live” interactive face to face therapy using your computer in your home. Therapy services include an interactive atmosphere with engaging activities, progress measurement, detailed reporting and aural rehabilitation “homework” as deemed appropriate.
Because clinical services are based on the unique needs of each individual, telepractice may not be appropriate in all circumstances or for all clients. Candidacy for receiving services via telepractice should be assessed prior to initiation of services. The individual’s communication status, culture, educational level, medical status, age, gender, and other characteristics may influence the appropriateness of aural rehabilitation services provided via telepractice.

In order to connect with us, all you need is access to a computer and/or tablet, webcam, and an optional headset. For those who are working on telephone goals you would need a telephone.
