About Me

Antoinette S. Allen is a speech-language pathologist / aural rehabilitationist who has 35+ years of experience in the provision of aural rehabilitation services to individuals who are hard-of hearing, deaf and Deaf.

​

​Ms. Allen recently retired from Gallaudet University’s Department of Hearing, Speech, Language Sciences’ (HSLS) Hearing & Speech Center.  She served in a variety of positions intermittently since 1988 – including Coordinator of Clinical Services, clinical educator for graduate students, and direct service provider. 

​

In addition, Ms. Allen has  provided speech-language pathology and aural rehabilitation services as a member of the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DODDS) in Europe.  She has taught and lectured in the area of aural rehabilitation as a clinical educator at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.

​

Ms. Allen’s interest and expertise in service provision for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals was honed during her tenure at Gallaudet.  She provides assessment, therapy and support to individuals with hearing loss in both group and individual settings. Ms. Allen has presented both locally and nationally on topics related to service provision in aural rehabilitation.

Ms. Allen utilizes an Integrated Model of Aural Rehabilitation as a foundation for service provision.  This approach specifically targets communication areas impacted by hearing loss: listening training, lipreading/speechreading training, communication strategies training, as well as addressing any additional communication areas as needed.

​

Ms. Allen is a certified member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). She is licensed in Maryland, Texas, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
